Australian Prime Minister Goes Missing 1967
No one knows what happened to the Australian Prime Minister the year of 1967 when he went swimming. He went swimming with some friends out on the ocean. He ignored the rough waters and waves and just went out there to swim because he hasn't swam in a long time and only thought about going in the water. At first his friends thought he was fine, but then the waves got stronger and the waters got rougher. His friends yelled out to him and that he needed to come back now because the water was too rough. Unfortunately his friends lost his and he wasn't above the water anymore. They called for help to find as soon as possible before he'd drown or his body was lost. The truth was that nobody ever found his body. Many people had theories about what happened to him but since he was since he was never found they presumed him dead.
First Heart Transplant 1967
In 1967 South African surgeon Christiaan Barnard made the first heart transplant . He was putting in a new heart for 53-year old Lewis Washkansky whose old one was not well. There were some problems to getting a new and healthy heart though that Lewis could not handle. He would live for a few more days because since her body was not used to the new heart that it would not work well with the body so somehow it was easier for lots more sicknesses to occur because of the new heart. A few days later after the operation she died. It was all because of the new heart which caused double pneumonia.
Thurgood Marshall Becomes the First African-American Supreme Court Justice 1967
Thurgood Marshall was the first African-American to become a Supreme Court Justice. He was also the 39th Justice for the American Supreme Court. When he was born as Thoroughgood Marshall he changed it to Thurgood in the 2nd grade. During those years lots of African-Americans were completing lots of accomplishments like first African-American to do this or this. Mainly an African-American doing something that their descendants could not do but whites could back then. We will always remember the days he was a justice in the Supreme Court and served justice for America as an honorable African-American citizen.
Martin Luther King Jr. is Assassinated 1968
Martin Luther King a powerful civil rights leader speaker helped African-Americans believe that there was hope for a better future where white people and African-Americans could live together peacefully. MLK will not be forgotten in African-American history. It was sad that he was assassinated by James Earl Ray the year of 1968 because many people looked up to him because even he got into jail a couple of times he would still try to make peace. Lots of people were furious at James Earl Ray convict criminal who had escaped. Not Even MLK's family was at him. Other people though won't forget what he did to Martin Luther King Jr..
Neil Armstrong Becomes the First Man to Walk On the Moon 1969
Neil Armstrong the first man on the moon had accomplished something is to be remembered forever by humans. He was the first man to walk on the moon and survive. During this time the,"Space Race" was beginning. President John F. Kennedy had announce his,"man on the moon" speech years before and now one of our dreams has come true. Back then the Soviet Union and the U.S. were in a heated competition for space exploration supremacy. In 1969 we showed not only the Soviets but the world that we are more than capable of space exploration.
Sesame Street First Airs 1969
Sesame Street the show that teaches kids about science and math and other subjects that helps kids grow smarter everyday. Even today Sesame Street airs on channels such as Kids Thirteen or PBS Kids. This show has helped millions of kids learn what they need to know as they grow up. Lots of kids also like the characters who are mostly Muppet monsters. Some are Elmo, Zoe, and Cookie Monster who help kids learn their ABCs, shapes,numbers, and much more that young children are capable of learning. Sesame Street has other friendly characters that can help the monsters and kids know what they never knew before.
Beatles Break Up 1970
As you may know the Beatles would have to break up eventually because they don't live forever and issues can form. The Beatles were very good when they played together from 1960, their debut, to 1970, their break-up. Paul left first because he heard their manager Brian Epstine died so he knew the band would have financial problems and quit. John Lennon later quit because he knew that the band would not be the same without Paul McCartney. The other two members of the band quit too because they knew the band was permanently over. Ever since then, a lot of people miss the Beatles.
